What price democracy?

Sorry for the overload of post today but we think this is important. We have it from a trustworthy source that Adam's appeal has caused EUSA to seek legal advice and this has already cost £750. Is there not a more gentlemanly (read cheaper) way of settling all this? Or is this a necessary cost? If it ensures that the president is fairly elected and has credibility perhaps it is money well spent.

As soon as we know more, you'll know more.

£750 is nothing compared to what Ramsay's Dell laptop scheme would have lost EUSA -

In the words of Mastercard "there are some things money can't buy" for example honesty, integrity and transparency... but I suppose for everything else there's Adam Ramsay!

I think it's money well spent. I don't want a president who gets his position because we're too cheap to hire lawyers to tell him to fuck off.

Maybe Rich Ramsay can refund the union.

I bought a packet of Ramsay Estate bacon today. It was half price though, perhaps because it is past its sell by date

i feel sorry for the otehr candidates. it's a foregone conclusion that Ramsay has rorally fucked up and will be chucked out of the contest. i'd had to be harry or nick (sorry, gabe) and have to wait for the result!

I'd say Gabe's in with a shout, since he's running against total knobends

Adam Ramsay's disqualification was on page 4 of the Daily Mail today, he's dragging EUSA through the mud with this and should JUST GIVE UP!

It would be a turn out for the books if Gaybe wins. Personally I think that most people would have thought that in an election with three clear front runners a vote for Gaybe was a wasted vote.

No offence to the guy, and I'm happy to be proved wrong, but he surely knew that it was very unlikely that he'd win.

As far as Ramsay goes... he knows he's done wrong!

Or they could have used Gabe as 2nd to vote tactically, there was probably a lot of that going on.
It would certainly be justice if he did win, since he is the only candidate with his integrity intact after this furore.

THE TRUTH ABOUT ADAM RAMSAY's DISQUALIFICATION - read it here

This group has been started to ensure that the full facts about Adam Ramsay's disqualification are known to all members of EUSA.

There is a strong feeling that the episode has been misrepresented in the student press and by Adam Ramsay's supporters. We are anxious that the full truth should be known to as many people as possible.

1. Election rules limit canvassing in Pollock essentially to protect the residents who live there from endless door-knocking.

2. Pollock Halls residents vote in huge numbers proportionally and if a candidate controls Pollock, they have a large advantage.

3. If Adam had won, he would undoubtedly have attributed much of this victory to a good turn-out in Pollock Halls.

4. Ramsay had been canvassing in Pollock for weeks before election rules permitted. None of the other candidates had done so. He was therefore at a huge advantage which none of the others enjoyed.

5. After this was brought to Graham Boyack's attention (the EUSA official who oversees the election process), Adam gave the excuse that he thought it was permitted as it had been in last years rules. He apologised.

6. Adam Ramsay took the decision not to attend a meeting for candidates at which the new rules for this year were explained. All other candidates did.

7. Graham Boyack accepted Adam's apology but said that if there were any other infractions, he would be disqualified.

8. On the final day of the election, Graham Boyack received a number of complaints suggesting that two of Adam Ramsay's supporters had been canvassing in Pollock at 2pm (outside of permitted hours).

9. As candidates are responsible for the actions of their team, Boyack decided enough was enough. Adam Ramsay was disqualified.

10. Adam Ramsay is appealling the decision, but this has no bearing on his guilt. He was innocent until proven guilty when he was a candidate, but as a disqualified candidate, he is guilty until proven innocent.

THE FACTS
- Graham Boyack is the most senior official in EUSA.
- Graham Boyack has overseen many, many elections.
- Graham Boyack very rarely disqualifies people.
- Graham Boyack has to have hard evidence in order to disqualify people (in this case, the testimony of the security guards)

- Adam Ramsay has been disqualified for cheating.
- Adam Ramsay is no longer a presidential candidate.
- Adam Ramsay has the right to appeal, but presently, he is officially believed to be in the wrong.
- Adam Ramsay cheated, and in doing so, threw away an election he might have won cleanly.

FURTHER ALLEGATIONS
- Adam Ramsay and his team took down banners belonging to other candidates the night before voting began. They even replaced Gabe Arafas with one of Adam Ramsays - in the exact same position outside Teviot.

- Adam Ramsay and his team were notorious for taking down other candidates posters.

- Dariush Bazazi, an Adam Ramsay supporter, was seen in broad daylight ripping down a Harry Cole banner outside Teviot.

- Adam Ramsay entered female residents rooms in Pollock while they were in bed and the lights were off. Boyack was notified of this.

- The Appeals Committee includes Mark Ballard, who was a Green MSP until he lost his seat and is close personal friends with Adam Ramsay. Adam Ramsay is allegedly godfather to his son, although he denies this. This information was sourced from people very close to Adam, and is widely believed to be true.

- According to the blog http://whateusathey.blogspot.com, EUSA has so far spent £750 in legal fees over the dispute.

- Adam Ramsay has admitted cheating in last years elections, which he lost to Josh MacAlister.
It is important that everyone understands that until the appeals process is completed, Adam Ramsay is considered to be a cheat by EUSA, and has thus been disqualified.

He was disqualified not based on a single incident, but based on a catalogue of complaints about his behaviour during this election, which culminated in the final straw - his supporters being caught in Pollock.

That is an absolute pile of SHYTE, fraser Brown. I haven't commented on this forum before, but you are well known for muck-raking.
It is NOT fact that Adam cheated, it is fact that one of his supporters did. Your list of allegations are totally without supporting evidence - no doubt they're the words of shit-stirrers who'll say anything to increase the venom of this campaign further.

I supported Nick Ward and I still think he'll make the best president. But the fact he has joined your poisonous facebook group - aimed purely at creating anger and bitterness about half-trues and downright lies, is shameful. Nick claims not to like the daily mail (which is practically the beano behind this nonsense) and to be a picture of fair play, honesty, and integrity.

The dignified thing for Nick, Harry and Gabe to do, is to wait for the appeal, and not try to prejudice the result with their ambition and the hands of their scheming supporters.

Adam's supporter cheated, and hopefully they will disqualify him. Or is there something else that you're so worried about that you have to circle over him like crazed vultures trying to turn every student at this univeristy against him?

Even if you win, many people will lose respect for you after this, Nick. You're letting yourself down. And you're letting the people who voted for you down, as well.

I'm disappointed :(

16:47 - I couldn't agree more.

Ward and Cole's behaviour is disgraceful. At least Gabe hasn't stooped to the level of endorsing petty facebook groups, which claim to say "the truth about Ramsay", while really including just a list of baseless accusations. I could write my own, 50-point list of accusations against Ward and Cole, right here.
Sure, I'd have no proof that they were true. Some would be true, some would be hearsay, some would be made up by accident, and some would be made up maliciously. most would be lies.

But who cares, eh, so long as it makes a good story and gets people's blood raising and their fists pumelling?
